Peljeśac Peninsula from Dubrovnik: Wine Roads Tour
Wine tasting tour from Dubrovnik to Pelješac peninsula, including Arboretum Trsteno visit (Game Of Thrones filming location). Oyster tasting is optional.
Pick Up from Dubrovnik. Every Saturday.
Pelješac is the most fruitful red wine region in Croatia and vineyards can be found throughout the entire peninsula. Indigenous grape sort Plavac Mali is low-yield but produces a wine that is high in flavor, tannins and alcohol content. Our wine tour will take you to the heart of Croatia’s best wine country so you can taste wines you will not find anywhere else. A visit to Trsteno Arboretum, the oldest Arboretum in this part of Europe and a recent filming location for the Game of Thrones is also a part of the tour.
Points of interest
Trsteno Arboretum Visit
After a short Drive from Dubrovnik, we reach our first sight. Arboretum in Trsteno is the oldest arboretum in this part of the world. A lush Renaissance garden right on the azure Adriatic Sea coast. This exotic collection of over 300 trees and shrubs was recently a filming location for Game of Thornes.
Ston - Coffee break
Our second stop, where we have a short break for coffee, is the city of Ston. The 5.5-kilometer wall around Ston - often referred to as “European Great Wall of China” was constructed to protect the city’s salt pans which are still operating to this day. The area around Ston is also well known for oyster production.
Tasting at a small Family-owned winery
The “good part” of the tour starts when we visit a small family owned winery. Pelješac peninsula is famous for wine production. Some excellent local wines, however, are not mass produced, so the only way to experience their uniqueness is by visiting the very place of their origin.
Tasting at Matuško Winery
One of the biggest wineries in this region started out as a small wine tasting cellar. Today Matuško winery is one of the most well-known wineries on Pelješac and in Croatia. The winery is most famous for wines produced from grape varieties indigenous to this region like Dingač and Plavac Mali. During your visit, you will get to experience this wine estate and discover how some of the best Croatian red wines are made.
Neretva river photo stop (oyster tasting optional)
Before returning to Dubrovnik, we make one short break to admire the beautiful Neretva River delta. It is the most fertile land in this region, and it can be seen from the peninsula. This area is also famous for oysters; optionally tasting can be arranged for additional charge.
