Upper Barrakka Gardens – A public garden in Valletta in which you can enjoy spectacular views of the Grand Harbour. Back in the day, the gardens were originally used to offer recreation to the Knights of the Order of Saint John but they were later on open to the general public.
The Grandmaster’s Palace – The Grandmaster’s Palace was built between the 16th and the 18th centuries as the palace of the Grand Master of the Order of Saint John. It eventually became the Governor’s Palace and currently, it is the Office of the President of Malta. The Palace State Rooms and the Palace Armoury are open to the public as a museum.
St John’s Co-Cathedral – This is a Roman Catholic co-cathedral in Valletta that is dedicated to Saint John the Baptist. The cathedral was built by the Knights between 1572 and 1577 and it was designed by the Maltese architect Girolamo Cassar. Inside the cathedral you can find notable works of art such as The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist by Caravaggio. The interior of the church is considered to be one of the finest examples of high Baroque architecture in Europe.
San Anton Gardens – Together with the gardens, San Anton Palace is the official residence of the President of Malta. It was originally built in the 17th century as a country villa for a knight of the Order of Saint John. The palace is surrounded by San Anton Gardens and parts of it are accessible to the public.
Buskett Gardens – Buskett Gardens forms one of the very few woodland areas n Malta and it is located in Siggiewi. The Verdala Palace, also an official residence of the President of Malta, is located at the edge of these Gardens. These gardens are extremely popular with locals for picnics and peaceful walks.
Palazzo Parisio – Palazzo Parisio is a 19th century palace in Naxxar, Malta. Back in the day, this was used as a hunting lodge by Paolo Parisio and also as a summer or permanent residence, barracks and a college. Nowadays it is a popular location for weddings and events since the Palazzo Parisio Gardens provide a magnificent backdrop.
The Inquisitor’s Palace – This palace in Birgu was the seat of the Maltese Inquisition from 1574 to 1798. The Inquisitor’s Palace was originally built as a courthouse. The palace is a unique experience which includes historic reconstructions of various rooms of the palace such as the domestic kitchen area, the prison complex and the torture chamber.
